In the sustainability and digital sectors standards of different nature are used besides formal legal sources to regulate relationships and subjective positions. Recently, standards and certifications are more and more recalled by legal provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So far, standards and certifications have not attracted the general attention in legal studies but their widespread use, and potential future usefulness, requires to meditate their nature and role. Standards in the sustainability area need to adapt to the sector\u2019s evolving legal framework, while the digital sector requires standards that facilitate organizational compliance, and flexible enough to easily adapt to the needs of a constantly evolving market and field. In conclusion, the subject requires careful and in-depth study to be consistently understood within contemporary legal systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are currently witnessing the elaboration of rules of law on the protection of human rights and environmental resources from endangering \u2013 because non-sustainable \u2013 production and commercial practices. Human rights interested are for example those of the workers involved in non-sustainable production, or those of the inhabitants of the world areas affected by non-sustainable productions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Environmental resources are also often in danger due to non-sustainable production systems and non-sustainable use and extraction of raw materials. The elaboration of new rules of law on these phenomena is happening at the International, European and national level, in more than one country. In this context the European Green Deal is probably the most significant process under development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Very important are also set of rules that were given at the International level in the past decades, such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
